Gas or electric heater

Well, this has been a whole new experience. I’ve never had such a strange winter before. So far the entire season has just been “off.” First of all, we didn’t go anywhere for the holidays, and it’s the first year I’ve ever missed seeing my family on Christmas. Secondly, I’ve never thrown a bunch of holiday celebrations for a child before, and my boyfriend’s 5 year old was visiting. I have never been so overworked and distracted around this time of year before. Lastly, our air temperatures really have not been cooperating with the passing of months. It is definitely far past the point when I would expect air temperatures to dip below freezing, but instead it has consistently been about 60 degrees here all winter. In fact, I think there was only about a week when it actually felt cold and we were operating the furnace often. That’s part of the reason why we’re also so confused and stressed out about our energy bills this month. See, we got a notice in the mail that our newly-activated gas service was expecting a sizable amount of cash from us, for only having been in operation 1 week. We only turned on the gas in order to operate our fireplace, but soon found that this heat source didn’t work anyways. Therefore, we didn’t understand how there was any monthly balance with the gas company whatsoever! After arguing with them on the phone and insisting there must be a gas leak, my man finally realized that our heater might actually be gas powered. We just hadn’t realized it because the air temperature had been so warm, and we only coincidentally turned on the gas just in time to run the furnace for our single week of cold air. Oops.
